Weezer continues its ascent as it gears up for its upcoming album with the release of the catchy and self-deprecating “C.E.O.”. At the same time, the California-based group has formalized a new slate of dates for The Gathering Tour in the United Kingdom, in Europe and in Japan, including a highly anticipated stop in Paris on May 25, 2027!
A few weeks before the release of its self-titled new album, already nicknamed The Gold Album by fans, Weezer reveals a second single after “We Might As Well Be Strangers.” Entitled “C.E.O.”, the track brings back all the hallmarks that have defined the band for more than thirty years: melodic alternative rock, immediately memorable choruses, and biting humor.
Rivers Cuomo offers a wry look at the contradictions faced by a band that has been around for decades. Between the need to keep creating and the expectations of an audience often nostalgic for the band’s greatest classics, the singer quips: “To write another song that sounds like the ’90s… I’d love to do something new, but nobody wants to hear that.” A way of lampooning the pressure that accompanies the longevity of a career like Weezer.
The video extends this mise en abyme with a hefty dose of self-deprecation. The band recreates the world of its iconic “Undone (The Sweater Song),” pushed to revisit its past by a gallery of prestigious guests. Notably appearing are the legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk, the actors Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Rob Riggle and Rob Huebel, as well as content creators Curry Barker, Dax Flame and Chit (Jay Renshaw). On Instagram, Weezer also thanked all participants with its usual humor, noting that they had all received a fictitious “Gold Star of Excellence” for their contribution to the clip.
“C.E.O.” will appear on Weezer, due August 21 via Reprise/Warner Records. It will be the second official single from the album, following “We Might As Well Be Strangers.”
The band also uses this moment to expand its worldwide The Gathering Tour with a fresh round of shows in 2027. After several dates in Japan in February, Weezer will head to the United Kingdom and then Europe in the spring. The tour will notably run through Dublin, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Cardiff before crossing to the continent with a stop at the Zenith in Paris on May 25, then wrapping up in Helsinki on June 1.
The British and European shows will also feature a special guest, as Taking Back Sunday will open the entire leg of the tour.
With “C.E.O.”, Weezer once again proves its ability to play with its own heritage without losing its melodic sense or its humor. Between a new album due August 21 and a world tour that will stop in Paris on May 25, 2027, the California quartet continues to nurture a unique bond with multiple generations of fans.
