Electric Callboy – Dance Envy

August 12, 2026

With TANZNEID, Electric Callboy still isn’t trying to pick between metal, electro, pop, or the perfectly unapologetic bad taste. And that’s a good thing. Four years after TEKKNO, the Germans push this instantly recognizable identity even further: turning the most unlikely contrasts into something strangely coherent. Yet behind the perpetual party, this new album also reveals a few more intimate fissures.

Dance Until the Boundaries Explode

From the very start of TANZNEID, the principle is laid out: there is no staying still. Supercharged techno, massive riffs, and screams collide without asking for permission. Electric Callboy no longer merely juxtaposes genres; they treat them as if they have always belonged to the same universe.

“The Way You Are” pushes absurdity even further. The track begins like a late-90s boy-band ballad, before deliberately tearing apart its own setting with extreme metal. Behind the joke and nostalgia, the track perfectly encapsulates their philosophy: no idea is too kitschy or too distant from metal to become material for creation.

But “Heartclub” reveals something deeper. Beneath its unusually aggressive energy lies a message of self-acceptance, crystallized around a simple idea: you have always been enough. A vulnerability almost unexpected from Electric Callboy, without abandoning the violence and exuberance that define their DNA.

When the Party Lets in the Shadow

It’s mainly “Revery” that reveals the other side of the record. Darker, the track dives into an imagined realm where dreams, fear, and loneliness merge. The reverie becomes both a refuge and a presence that must be reined in. Behind the catchy melodies, a struggle against confinement takes shape, until there is a will to symbolically cut the leash and stop being a puppet.

TANZNEID ultimately doesn’t revolutionize Electric Callboy: it rather confirms how far the group can push their own formula. The only real regret perhaps comes from a release preceded by so many singles that discovering the full album loses some of its surprise. But musically, the verdict remains the same: few bands can jump from deathcore to techno and then to a parody of a boy band without losing their identity along the way.

Electric Callboy still doesn’t ask for permission. With TANZNEID, Electric Callboy continues to turn their contradictions into a fully-fledged identity, somewhere between violence, euphoria, and absurdity. A chaos perfectly controlled that, at this point, belongs to no one but them.
