A few months after the release of Tsunami Sea, Spiritbox opens a new chapter with “Mourning,” its first new track since the band’s second album!
Driven by the voice of Courtney LaPlante and an atmosphere that is as delicate as it is suffocating, the track marks a subtle evolution of the Canadian band’s sound, while preserving the contrasts between fragility and power that have shaped its identity.
On “Mourning,” Courtney LaPlante’s clear and impassioned vocals take the foreground, moving over a breezy production where guitars, drums and atmospheric layers appear and then gradually fade away. Initially restrained, the track gradually grows in intensity, letting heavier textures emerge and revealing a Spiritbox that is less upfront but still highly attuned to dynamics and shifts. An approach that lends the title a particularly emotional dimension.
The single comes with an official video directed by Alex Bemis and Mike Stringer, the band’s guitarist. Visually, Spiritbox abandons the black-and-white aesthetic associated with the Tsunami Sea era to explore a striking natural world. Between almost unreal outdoor landscapes, a strange structure resembling a hive, and the recurring appearances of a mysterious hooded silhouette, the clip establishes an atmosphere that is at once organic and unsettling.
“Mourning” follows Tsunami Sea, released in March 2025 and quickly greeted by fans, notably reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart. The album had also earned Spiritbox a third consecutive nomination at the GRAMMY Awards in the Best Metal Performance category for “Soft Spine,” confirming the band’s major place on the current metal scene.
Moreover, Courtney LaPlante’s news doesn’t stop there. The singer recently collaborated with Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon and producer Grabbitz on “If The Sun Burns Out Tonight,” the official anthem for the VALORANT Champions Tour 2026 due on September 16. She also announced at the end of August her first vocal signature plugin with MixWave, a modular suite built around the techniques and tools used to shape her famous timbre.
After recently supporting Evanescence in North America, Spiritbox is now hitting the road in Europe with the Tsunami Sea UK & European Tour, alongside Jinjer and Dying Wish. The tour will begin on September 12 and will notably stop in Paris on October 9 at La Seine Musicale.
With “Mourning,” Spiritbox is not attempting to replicate Tsunami Sea, but rather seems intent on extending its momentum in a new direction. The question now is to discover where this new phase will lead the band.
