The Rasmus tackle a landmark of 80s pop. The Finnish band unveils a new cover of “Forever Young,” Alphaville’s timeless classic, to which Lauri Ylönen and his teammates inject a markedly more rock energy!
For this reimagining, The Rasmus stays faithful to the spirit and melody of the original in the verses, before raising the tension with a heavy guitar attack. The band speeds up the tempo, hardens the track, and adds an unexpected punk rock edge. The result preserves the melancholic and instantly recognizable character of “Forever Young,” while thrusting it fully into The Rasmus’s sonic universe, with more bite, power and electricity.
This choice is not insignificant for Lauri Ylönen: “This song, ‘Forever Young,’ originally performed by the German band Alphaville, is a bit like the soundtrack of our youth,” explains the singer. “Revisiting this song is nostalgic, but its lyrics are also very relevant given what is happening in the world today.”
Originally released in the 80s, “Forever Young” nonetheless retains, more than four decades later, a special resonance. By turning that nostalgia into a version more nerve-wracking and electric, The Rasmus does not aim to reproduce Alphaville’s classic but to own it. A cover that is both familiar and sufficiently muscular to naturally find its place in the Finnish band’s repertoire.
