Scorpions Biopic: Wind of Change Reveals Trailer and Release Date

October 7, 2026

The project had been anticipated for several years: Wind Of Change, the biopic devoted to Scorpions, is finally unveiled through a first genuine trailer. After a teaser released a year ago, the film directed by Alex Ranarivelo will ultimately hit German theaters on January 28, 2027!

Starring Alexander Dreymon in the role of Rudolf Schenker, Ludwig Trepte as Klaus Meine, Ed Speleers as Matthias Jabs and Luke Brandon Field as Herman Rarebell, Wind Of Change will trace the formative years of Scorpions up to the writing of the song that bears its title. Dominic West (The Crown, The Wire) embodies the band’s manager, Doc McGhee, while David Kross plays Andrej, a friend of the group living on the other side of the Berlin Wall.

The trailer, this time entirely dubbed in German, notably depicts the band’s beginnings and its relationship with a Germany still divided. The film aims above all to tell Scorpions from a perspective different from the traditional rock biopics focused on excesses, as Klaus Meine explained in 2025: “Many music films focus only on sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll. But this one also shows another aspect. It would be completely crazy to try to recount sixty years of the Scorpions career, so the film follows our beginnings up to that very particular moment in our history,” referring to the release of “Wind Of Change” in 1990.

At the heart of the narrative lies, of course, this track that became far more than a simple rock hit. Inspired by the group’s concerts in the Soviet Union, notably the Moscow Music Peace Festival of 1989, the song has become one of the musical symbols of the end of the Cold War. When the Berlin Wall fell in November 1989, “Wind Of Change” accompanied footage of East Germans crossing the wall and discovering the West for the first time. With its themes of peace, hope and unity, the track has since become one of the most emblematic pieces in the history of rock.

The producer Ali Afshar, founder of ESX Entertainment, also maintains a personal link to Scorpions’ music: “The Scorpions’ music helped me get through immense difficulties as an Iranian immigrant in the United States in the early 1980s, but their message of love, peace and rock ’n’ roll seems more relevant today than ever,” he explains. “I will forever be grateful to the band – Rudolf, Klaus and Matthias – for trusting us to tell their story.”

Yet the film’s development proved markedly longer than planned. Announced in 2024 and filmed from 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Wind Of Change was originally meant to accompany Scorpions’ 60th anniversary, celebrated in 2025. Its release was ultimately pushed back, before this new German date was formalized. For now, no date has been announced for France or other territories.

The band itself is not currently touring. Scorpions recently announced the postponement of their last concerts scheduled for 2026, including their Las Vegas residency, to 2027 due to “unforeseen circumstances.” This development will therefore give the biopic a particular resonance at a moment when the German legends are about to continue their story on stage.

After more than six decades of touring and over 110 million albums sold worldwide, Scorpions are poised to see their story brought to the big screen. It remains to be seen whether Wind Of Change will manage to capture the scope of a journey that extends far beyond the realm of rock, and to do justice to the song that accompanied one of Europe’s major upheavals in history.
