After several years without new music, Staind are back with the unreleased “Ghosts”, reconnecting with the heavy sounds and tormented melodies that have defined the American group’s reputation. Available via Alchemy Recordings and BMG, this new track marks the quartet’s first release since Confessions Of The Fallen, issued in 2023, and opens the path to a new chapter for the lineup!
Driven by a heavy guitar riff, distinctive harmonics and a haunting bass, “Ghosts” immediately sinks into a dark atmosphere. The recognizable voice of Aaron Lewis moves between fragility and intensity, before giving way to a powerful chorus and an explosive finale. Between melodic passages and surges of distortion, the track gathers several facets of Staind’s musical identity, somewhere between nu metal and alternative rock.
To craft this new track, the musicians reunited with producer Erik Ron, notably known for his work with Bad Omens, Godsmack and Papa Roach: “We headed down to Nashville for a writing session with Erik. We got together and I found the riff on the spot. Erik and I then built the song in a single day,” recounts guitarist Mike Mushok. Aaron Lewis joined the process a little later with a vocal performance that gave the track its full scope.
The singer explains that “Ghosts” surprised the whole band: “Everyone seemed to latch onto this track. It’s a bit different and surprised us all. It features heavy elements, but it’s also melodic. It’s definitely Staind.”
This return comes as the group experiences an unexpected resurgence in popularity. In the middle of a North American tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of Break The Cycle, their flagship album released in 2001, Staind has been playing sell-out shows and is approaching half a million tickets sold. Certified seven times platinum, the album dominated the Billboard 200 for three weeks upon its release and yielded several iconic tracks, including “It’s Been A While.” More recently, “Warm Safe Place” has enjoyed a new wave of popularity on TikTok, helping push the band’s streams beyond one billion in 2026.
L’aventure se poursuivra en 2027 avec une deuxième part de la tournée anniversaire Break The Cycle, produite par Live Nation.
With “Ghosts”, Staind thus marks a return that is both familiar and surprising, while hinting at new releases in the coming months. This serves to confirm that, more than two decades after their rise, the band has not finished letting its torments resonate against a backdrop of saturated guitars.
