Amon Amarth Announces New Album The Allfather Awakens and New Single Gjallarhorn

Nearly four years after The Great Heathen Army, Amon Amarth are back. The Swedish masters of melodic Viking death metal announce the release of their twelfth studio album, The Allfather Awakens, due on October 2, 2026, and unveil their first truly explosive single with “Gjallarhorn”!

After surprising fans with “Upphaf,” the band’s first acoustic track, Amon Amarth shifts gears dramatically and reveals “Gjallarhorn,” a song that opens The Allfather Awakens. Driven by an instantly catchy riff, a unifying chorus and a furious tempo, this new excerpt reconnects with the power that has built the Swedish quintet’s reputation, while also hinting at fresh ideas that should quickly render it a staple of their future live performances.

Scheduled for October 2, 2026, The Allfather Awakens was produced by Jacob Hansen and will be released in a CD digipak, several colored vinyl editions, cassette and digital formats. Composed of ten tracks, the album is presented as the group’s most accomplished work to date, further cementing its legacy within the Scandinavian metal scene with its epic riffs, potent melodies and a sense of grand spectacle.

While Odin remains once again the thread running through the universe explored by the band, The Allfather Awakens is not a concept album. Across its songs, Amon Amarth draws from Norse mythology as well as historical narratives to tell stories of war, sacrifice and heroism. The “Father of All,” the supreme god of the Norse pantheon, continues to inspire the band’s lyrics and imagery, without binding the album to a single overarching storyline.

“Gjallarhorn” focuses precisely on one of the most famous episodes in Odin’s legend. In order to gain wisdom inaccessible to mortals, the god agrees to sacrifice his own eye by plunging it into the well of Mímir, the ultimate exchange that grants him cosmic knowledge and the clairvoyance needed to guide the destinies of gods and men. True to its penchant for epic mythological canvases, Amon Amarth musicizes this ancestral tale once again, inviting listeners to symbolically embark on a quest in search of that lost eye to in turn gain a higher vision.

To accompany this new era, Amon Amarth will hit the road with a brand-new live production. The band promises a theatrical staging never seen before and a notably ambitious setlist for their upcoming European tour. The Vikings will notably stop at the Zénith de Paris on October 13, 2026, joined by Orbit Culture and Soilwork, in what already promises to be one of the autumn’s major metal dates.
