This collaboration is highly anticipated by metalcore fans and is finally coming to life. Howard Jones, former vocalist of Killswitch Engage, and Adam Dutkiewicz, the band’s guitarist and producer, join forces once more within Burn Eternal. The duo has just announced the release of its first self-titled album, scheduled for February 26, 2027 via Metal Blade Records, and accompanies this announcement with a first single, “Wounds I’ve Made,” now available in the form of a lyric video!
This reunion marks the musical reuniting of the two artists, who had not collaborated since Howard Jones’s time with Killswitch Engage, between 2002 and 2012. During that period, they contributed to two major albums by the American outfit: The End Of Heartache (2004), which was nominated for a Grammy Awards and honored at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards, and As Daylight Dies (2006), which became the best-selling record in the band’s discography.
The story of Burn Eternal nonetheless began long before its official announcement. The idea took root during a lunch between the two musicians in London, while Killswitch Engage was on tour with Iron Maiden and Howard Jones happened to be in the United Kingdom. The former singer apparently asked his friend if he had a few riffs he could lay his voice on. A spontaneous proposition that gradually gave birth to a genuine album, free from label pressure or a fixed timetable. Adam Dutkiewicz had even started composing some tracks as early as six years prior.
“Wounds I’ve Made,” the first glimpse of this record, showcases the reunion of two musicians whose synergy remains intact. Howard Jones explains that the track speaks to the necessity of owning up to one’s mistakes and regrets while continuing to move forward: “Sometimes change hurts, but it is necessary to grow and not remain trapped in the past. Some relationships simply aren’t meant to last.” On his side, Adam Dutkiewicz is delighted to finally share this title, one of the earliest pieces written for the project, with the public.
After leaving Killswitch Engage in 2012, Howard Jones pursued his path with Devil You Know, which later evolved into Light The Torch, then SION, his collaboration with guitarist Jared Dines. Adam Dutkiewicz, meanwhile, remained a core member of Killswitch Engage, while expanding his work as a producer for bands such as Underoath, Parkway Drive and Shadows Fall.
With , the two musicians aim to recapture a familiar alchemy while exploring new creative avenues. A project that should naturally rekindle memories for fans of the Howard Jones era of Killswitch Engage, without being limited to a mere retrospective.
Save the date for February 26, 2027 to discover this debut album, for which “Wounds I’ve Made” already offers a promising preview.
