Having begun its new chapter with “Heretic” alongside Kim Dracula and then cemented its ambitions with “Sleeping With The Enemy”, In This Moment steps up a gear. The band led by Maria Brink officially announces the release of its ninth studio album, Witch, slated for August 28 through Better Noise Music, and unveils a new single as massive and intense as it is: “Crawl”, accompanied by a video directed by Michael Lombardi!
Staying true to the American quintet’s sonic identity, “Crawl” blends crushing riffs, martial industrial rhythms, and Maria Brink’s rising vocal intensity, alternating between haunting whispers and furious screams. Behind this sonic onslaught lies a message of resistance against abuses of power. Through lyrics touching on oppression and domination, the track presents itself as a genuine anthem to revolt.
Maria Brink explains: ““Crawl” is a reckoning, a reflection on the fact that those who dominate and inflict suffering will eventually reap what they have sown. What is above is as below. Their downfall is inevitable. By witnessing the damage they cause, this song asserts that those who once stood tall will end up on their knees.”
The guitarist and co-founder Chris Howorth continues: ““Crawl” is a visceral track that highlights an undeniable reality: the powerful dominate and exploit the weakest and the most vulnerable, a pattern that repeats endlessly throughout the history of humanity. This song empowers and, at its core, speaks to rising up and striking back.”
Scheduled for August 28, Witch will mark In This Moment’s first album since GODMODE (2023) as well as its first since signing with Better Noise Music. Comprising eleven tracks, the record promises to showcase all facets of the band, from brutality and femininity to theatricality and introspection.
The album will also feature several prestigious guests. After collaborating with Kim Dracula on “Heretic”, In This Moment will reunite with the members of Dayseeker on “I Want To Believe”, while Maria Brink will share vocals with Kat Von D for a cover of “Another Brick In The Wall” by Pink Floyd.
Regarding this new record, Maria Brink states: “Witch is my declaration of inner transformation. It speaks to embracing the duality that exists within us, turning pain, persecutions and trials into strength and power. This album reflects both ancestral trials and my own journey, where being a “sorceress” means being a creator, connected to the universe and capable of manifesting one’s own reality.”
With “Heretic”, “Sleeping With The Enemy“, and now “Crawl”, In This Moment continues to unveil a project that is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious in their career.
